You can help your child with these exercises. Your child can also learn to use the simple techniques themselves, as needed.

1.    Letting go of worries and being calm

What to do… When your child is feeling worried about something in the future, or the past; lightly hold 2 points which are located above the pupils of the eyes, on the midline of the forehead. These are Emotional Stress Release points. Encourage the child to think about the worry, whist holding these points. It may help if the child talks about it, too - give them the option. Children can be shown how to hold their own points, so they can use them when they need to as well.

Why it works… Emotional Stress Release (ESR) points relate to the Stomach Meridian (or energy pathway) and the Solar Plexus; where we most strongly feel our emotions. For example ‘butterfies in the stomach’ or ‘gut feelings’. Holding these points can help by removing the emotional charge from a worry (or any emotion), enabling the child to think clearly, calm down and feel more relaxed.

2.    Feeling better after a minor upset or knock with ESR and light touch

What to do… If your child has fallen over, is feeling emotional or overwhelmed, you can hold their ESR Points (as above) and place your other hand over the physical area that got the bump or scrape. This may help to reduce the pain as well as the emotional shock caused by the incident.

3.    To have good energy, feel balanced, ready for concentration and   learning, exercise or play

What to do… Cross-Crawl exercises. March on the spot bringing the knees up high, at the same time, bringing each hand up to touch the inside of the opposite knee. Repeat for 3 minutes. This can be done up to 3 or 4 times a day, as needed. This is a good one to use in the afternoon, to re-energise and wake up minds and bodies ready for learning or movement.

Why it works… These exercises help enhance the neurological organisation of the brain. Cross Crawling brings the right and left hemispheres of the brain into balance, improving physical co-ordination and ease of learning.

Children can choose to be involved in their own well-being, using quick and easy exercises to cope and feel better in their everyday lives. Taking responsibility for helping themselves is empowering, as well as rewarding, because it helps them to feel better

TFH does not replace medical treatment and you must consult a doctor if your child has had an accident and you are in any doubt.
